01Information collected
ScriptNight does not require a public account, name, email address, phone number, or precise device location to experience NOVA or play Signal Grid. The site may automatically receive ordinary technical information such as page and feature activity, browser and device category, referring source, approximate geographic area, and diagnostic information.
Information you intentionally send through Open Channel is also collected. At present, the public channel asks only for the message you choose to write.
02Analytics and live presence
ScriptNight uses Firebase and Google Analytics for basic measurements such as visits, sessions, general traffic sources, device categories, and interactions with NOVA features. Signal Grid measurements may include the selected game, mode and difficulty, game starts and outcomes, starter assignments, room creation or joining, code-copy actions, and rematch requests. ScriptNight's custom analytics events do not include private-room codes, board moves, Open Channel message text, or Firebase player identifiers.
Google Analytics may use first-party cookies and a random browser or app-instance identifier. These measurements help identify broken features and improve performance, navigation, content, and game flow.
The site also creates an anonymous Firebase session and a temporary connection flag while a browser is connected. The operator console is designed to present an aggregate live visitor count. The underlying presence data uses random anonymous user identifiers and temporary connection keys; it does not contain a visitor name, email address, message, assessment answer, or precise location.
ScriptNight does not use this information to sell personal information, deliver targeted advertising, or build advertising profiles.
03Open Channel messages
Open Channel uses Firebase Anonymous Authentication and Cloud Firestore. A random anonymous browser identifier connects your browser to its conversation so replies remain available when ScriptNight is offline and when you return using the same browser storage.
Opening Open Channel may create an empty conversation record before you transmit a message. That record may contain the anonymous browser identifier, creation and update timestamps, conversation status, unread-message counts, last-read timestamps, and the most recent visitor and operator typing timestamps. Typing timestamps are treated as inactive by the interface after a few seconds. If you send a message, Firebase also stores the message text, message timestamps, sender type, delivery state, and a short latest-message preview used by the operator console. Delivered means Firebase accepted the message. A seen receipt means the recipient's conversation view was open and visible when the receipt was recorded; neither state guarantees that the message was understood or answered.
An unfinished Open Channel draft is kept temporarily in session storage for the current browser tab so it can survive a refresh. Draft text is not transmitted to Firebase until you choose Transmit, and it is removed from that tab's session storage when sent or cleared.
Open Channel records are accessible only to the anonymous browser session that owns the conversation and approved ScriptNight operators under the site's security rules.
Open Channel is access-controlled but is not end-to-end encrypted. Do not send passwords, payment-card details, government identification numbers, medical information, or emergency requests.
04Signal Grid private rooms
Game-AI and same-device play in Signal Grid’s Tic Tac Toe and Signal Four experiences remain local in the browser, apart from the ordinary page and feature analytics described above. If you create or join a private room, Firebase Anonymous Authentication assigns the browser a random identifier and Firebase Realtime Database stores the selected game type, six-character room code, the two anonymous player identifiers, game moves, round and starter state, rematch choices, connection status, and timestamps needed to synchronize play. A separate temporary connection key lets the operator console count active private-room players and rooms; that connection key is removed when the game disconnects.
Private rooms do not request a player name and do not contain chat. An anonymously authenticated browser that submits a valid room code may retrieve that room's state, although only the two anonymous player identifiers assigned to the room may make moves. Treat the room code as a temporary access secret, share it only with the intended player, and do not use it or the game board to communicate personal or sensitive information.
Signal Grid private rooms are access-controlled by the room code and anonymous player identifiers but are not end-to-end encrypted.
05Cookies and browser storage
ScriptNight and its service providers may use cookies, local storage, session storage, IndexedDB, Cache Storage, or similar browser technologies to support basic analytics, remember whether the introductory screen was viewed, retain interface and Signal Grid sound preferences, maintain an anonymous visitor session, and make the public NOVA portfolio available as an installable web app.
The offline cache is limited to public portfolio and Signal Grid pages, interface code, configuration, and bundled visual assets. Open Channel messages, private-room game records, operator pages, live presence records, published Project Signal records and images, and third-party video responses are not intentionally stored in the NOVA offline cache.
You can remove or block this data through your browser settings. Doing so may reset NOVA and Signal Grid preferences, create a new anonymous visitor session, prevent the browser from reopening an earlier conversation, or prevent it from returning to a private room as the same player.
06How information is used

07Service providers and sharing
Google provides Firebase Hosting, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Firebase Realtime Database, and Google Fonts. These services support hosting, analytics, anonymous sessions, Open Channel, operator access, published Project Signal text and images, Signal Grid private-room synchronization for both games, aggregate live visitor and active private-game counts, and delivery of the site's typefaces. Published Project Signal content is public by design. Google may receive ordinary connection and device information and process technical information under its own terms and privacy practices.
Published Project Signals may include YouTube videos. When a video card is displayed, its preview image is requested from YouTube, which may disclose ordinary connection and device information to Google before you press play. ScriptNight loads the privacy-enhanced YouTube player only after you choose to play the video. Google and YouTube may then receive ordinary connection, device, playback, and cookie information under their own privacy practices.
Review Google’s Privacy Policy
ScriptNight may disclose information when reasonably necessary to operate the site, investigate abuse or security incidents, protect users or ScriptNight, comply with law or legal process, or complete a business transfer. ScriptNight does not sell or rent personal information to data brokers or advertisers.
08Retention and security
Information may be retained as reasonably necessary to operate the site, continue conversations, synchronize private game rooms, maintain records, investigate problems, protect security, and satisfy legal obligations. ScriptNight does not currently apply a fixed automatic deletion schedule to Open Channel conversations or Signal Grid private-room records. Only the owner may manually scan for and remove closed or empty older conversations and inactive private rooms; nothing is deleted by that maintenance tool until the owner confirms the action. Records may otherwise remain until manually removed or deletion is required.
Analytics information is retained according to ScriptNight's configured Google Analytics retention settings. Hosting logs and other provider records may be retained according to the applicable provider's settings and practices.
ScriptNight uses access controls and Firebase security rules intended to prevent unauthorized access to conversations and operator features. No internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.
09Your choices and privacy requests
Depending on where you live and applicable law, you may have rights concerning access, correction, or deletion of information associated with you. You may also clear browser storage, block cookies, use browser tracking protection, choose not to send an Open Channel message, or play only Signal Grid’s local modes.
Privacy questions or requests may be sent through the Open Channel button at the top of this page. Open Channel requests are associated with the anonymous session stored in that browser. Continue using the same browser and avoid clearing ScriptNight site data until the request is resolved, because clearing it may prevent the browser from reopening the earlier conversation.
Include enough information to identify the relevant conversation or private room, but do not include passwords, sensitive identity documents, or the content of private game moves unless ScriptNight specifically requests an appropriate verification method.
10Children and policy updates
ScriptNight is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly request personal information from children under 13 through this site. Children under 13 should not use Open Channel or Signal Grid private rooms. A parent or guardian who believes a child has submitted information may contact ScriptNight through Open Channel and should avoid sending additional sensitive information.
This policy may be updated as NOVA, Signal Grid, Open Channel, analytics, or applicable practices change. The revised policy will be posted here with a new effective date.
